A little planning and thought can prove to be beneficial time-wise during the holidays.

There are many new and innovating finishes for walls.

Trying to figure out which one is right for you can be confusing and scarry, especially if you have never tried this before.

  • When contemplating this kind of a job, there are a few things to consider first. Picture the room you want to do.
  • What kind of feel do you want?
  • What is your style?
  • How much time are you willing to put into this project?

It all sounds so easy in the brochures. Directions look like they will just walk you through it easily enough, yet these applications can prove to be very time consuming and labor intensive, not to mention expensive in a large room.

Take sponging for example. Corners are very hard to blend. If not done correctly they will spoil the whole effect.

My suggestion would be to think small until you find out if this is something you can do well. A bathroom or hallway may be a better place to start out on. Even one anchor wall in a room can give you a dramatic effect. If you find this is something that's right for you , you can always continue around the room.

With the holidays fast approaching, minimal time and effort is a plus.

Always remember, if you don't like it you can always paint over it. Re-painting one wall or one small room is easier than a large room.

Good Luck!

Some fresh ideas on displaying pumpkins may be as easy as looking in your back yard.

Pumpkin Displays

Not exactly keen on getting rid of that bale of hay after the fall season? Try using your birdbath as a perch. Using a bed of dried limbs and leaves can make a colorful base for your pumpkin sculpture. Corn stalks cut to size can be tied around the base for an even a more festive look.Changing out the pumpkin with a wooden bucket of gourds can take you into the Thanksgiving season.
Spotlights aren't just for Christmas anymore. A small sized spotlight with an amber bulb can add a warm and inviting effect to your home. Spotlighting your door with a beautiful fall wreath will surely get noticed.

Pumpkin Carvings

Instead of carving your pumpkin on the front, try cutting the eyes and mouth around the stem. Your pumpkin will appear to have a ghoulish nose and the ribs of the pumpkin make for great facial contortions. Cut a hole in the BOTTOM of the pumpkin for your light and lay the pumpkin on it's side for display.Using those greenish-black pumpkins to carve witches and crows can make for a chilling display. A grouping of pumpkins in black also makes for a chilling effect.
